PROBLEM: Receiving error "Failed to Open Graphics Server" using Pinnacle Graph Control

The information in this article applies to:

    • ActiveX
    • AVR, All versions

SYMPTOMS:

When working with the Pinnacle Graph Control, receive error: "Failed to Open Graphics Server".

CAUSE:

Here are the possible causes:

  • A supporting file is missing;
  • There is a version mismatch;
  • A file copied incorrectly or was otherwise damaged;
  • The wrong version is being found on the Windows search path before the right version;
  • It is also possible that your system has run out of resources, and therefore is unable to load and run the Graphics Server even with all the right files available, but this is much less common.

ASNA has also seen this error when the graph controls resided in two different directories on the same machine (i.e. c:\winnt\system and c:\winnt\system32)

RESOLUTION:

Check for the 8 (32-bit) files listed in the manufacturer's knowledgebase article. As previously stated, we have seen this error when the graph controls resided in two different directories on the same machine (ie c:\winnt\system and c:\winnt\system32). Make sure that only one set of all 8 files resides on the PC. You may also need to re-install the graph controls from the AVR install CD.
