HOWTO: Run an AVR Application using Windows Schedule Task

The information in this article applies to:

    • ASNA Visual RPG, Release 3.0 and Higher
    • Windows

SUMMARY:

This article will discuss a way in which you can run various AVR Applications using Windows Schedule Task.  This is similar to have an unattended batch job run at a specified date and time.

MORE INFORMATION:

NOTE:  These methods listed below are examples.  There might be other methods in which this feature can be incorporated into an AVR application that is not mentioned in this article.  Please coordinate with your Network Administrator or Microsoft when working with Windows Schedule Tasks.

This example assumes the Windows Application is installed and can run when a user is logged in the machine.  This example also assumes you are running Windows 98SE, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP (Home and Professional).

TIP: If your application accesses a database name, then the database name will have to be configured to be a public database name so it won't be executed under Microsoft's Windows System Account.

Here are the steps that you can follow to create a Scheduled Task:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and Select Schedule Task (See Figure 1 for Windows 98/NT, See Figure 1a for Windows 2000, See Figure 1b for Windows XP Professional):
  2. Figure 1

  3. Add a New Schedule Task:

  4. Follow the Windows Schedule Task Wizard to complete the task scheduling process (See Figure 2):
