SYMPTOMS:Receiving security error messages when attempting to connect to SQL from Acceler8DB via DataGate for SQL Server (DSS) after upgrading XP Professional with Service Pack 2. RESOLUTION:If you are having problems while trying to connect to your SQL Server database from Acceler8DB via DSS or wanting to know more information on how to configure SQL and ADB go to the MORE INFORMATION Section below. MORE INFORMATION:NOTE: Please consult with Microsoft or your Network Security Administrator as this is a Security related issue that you need to assess for your environment. After upgrading XP Professional with Service Pack 2, there are changes that are needing to be made to XP's firewall settings to allow SQL Server 2000 to be able to communicate with the Firewall features in XP Professional (See Figure 1). NOTE: The error message in Figure 1 is the true SQL Server error message, as this is the same error message one would receive when attempting to connect via SQL Enterprise Manager. There are potentially other causes for this error, such as the dependent files for sqldmo.dll are not found on the machine. The best place to start is here: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/techinfo/administration/2000/security/winxpsp2faq.asp If you need the quick resolution, please go here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;841251&product=sql
Figure 1 If you do not have a Firewall in place and cotinue to received error 1501, verify that sqldmo.dll can be registered successfully with regsvr32.exe. If sqldmo.dll doesn't register, please use dependency walker to determine the dependent files that are missing, click here. You can also use MS DLL Database to search. Other ASNA KB Articles:
