A comprehensive help file is available to assist you in using DataGate Component Suite. The help file is Visual Studio 2005 help file and is titled DCS2005.HxS. The help file can be accessed when you open the Help within Visual Studio 2005.
The help file is installed in C:\Program Files\ASNA\DCS for VS 2005 Help.
The first step to accessing and using DataGate Component Suite after it has been installed is to reference the assembly, so you can "see" the objects it contains.
To Access the DataGate Component Suite Assembly
1. Set a reference to the DataGate Component Suite Assembly by using Visual Studio’s Add References dialog box. To open the Add References dialog box, select “Add References…” on the Project menu of the IDE.
2. On the VS 2005 tab, select the component titled "ASNA DataGate Client", press Select, and finally, press OK.
3. To view the objects within the Assembly, select the Object Browser option from the View menu, or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+J (depending upon the Visual Studio key bindings in use).
4. In the left-hand pane of
the object browser is a list of assemblies referenced by your project.
Near the top, you will find “ASNA.DataGate.Client” to the right of a
tree-view button. Click the tree-view button to display the DataGate
Component Suite
namespaces. Then click the tree-view buttons next to the namespaces to
view the objects contained in those namespaces. To view the details of a
specific object in the left pane, click on it in the right pane.
There are some VB examples located in the C:\Program Files\ASNA\Examples\DCS for .NET 8.1\VB folder. Each example is contained within a separate folder, and there is a file called z_Readme.mht file in each folder containing information about the example, and how to access it. Double-clicking on the solution file (.sln) will automatically open the example in Visual Studio 2005.
At this time, we recommend deploying your DCS for VS 2005 application to the target computer using Visual Studio’s “Setup and Deployment Projects” using your application’s project as a source, and using the DCS for VS 2005 deployment releases. This approach offers the best integration of all the required components with the least amount of fuss. This method is documented for both web-based and Windows form-based apps, in the files “How to Web Deploy.doc” and “How to Deploy.doc”.
With experience, it is possible to copy the assemblies to the target machine using the “XCOPY” approach suggested by the VS 2005 Framework SDK. However, for web apps, license key installation for the “DataGate WebPak 8x” and (if necessary) the “DataGate for Windows Servers and Desktops 8x” products may still be required on the target machines.
