System Requirements to run AVR and Acceler8DB Classic

To run AVR Classic 4.0 and Acceler8DB Classic 5.0, you must have certain hardware and software installed on your computer.   The system requirements include:

·          Supporting Operating Systems include:  Microsoft NT 4.0 and above, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

(Please note that Windows 95, Windows 98 (all editions) and Windows ME operating systems are not supported with AVR Classic 4.0).

·          If installing on Windows NT 4.0 or later, or on Windows 2000, you must be signed on with Administrative privileges in order to start the Acceler8DB NT Service.

·          A CD-ROM disc drive.

·          VGA or higher-resolution screen supported by Microsoft Windows.

·          A minimum of 32 MB of RAM.

·          A mouse or other suitable pointing device.

·          At least 100 MB free disk space.

Read the Release Notes File

The Release Notes lists any issues regarding the current release of AVR and Acceler8DB, including bug fixes and known bugs.

The release notes can be found in different formats at the following locations:

·          In the Relnotes help file by selecting Start - Programs - ASNA Product SuiteASNA Visual RPG 4.0 - Release Notes.  The release notes for only AVR Classic 4.0 will display. 

·          Select Start - Programs - ASNA Product SuiteAcceler8DB - Release Notes.  The release notes for only Acceler8DB will display. 

·          In the AVR help file by selecting the Release Notes book from the Contents tab.

·          From the ASNA Product Suite CD browser, by selecting Products - ASNA Visual RPG - View Release Notes.

·          From the Documentation page on ASNA’s web site by selecting the Release Notes link under AVR Classic 4.0.

Installing AVR and Acceler8DB

AVR is easily installed by selecting the appropriate options from the CD Browser that will automatically display when the ASNA Product Suite CD is inserted in the CD-Rom drive.  An installation, or Setup program will decompress and install the files in the appropriate directories.

Installing AVR Classic 4.0 will also automatically install Release 5.0 of Acceler8DB.

Note that the installation procedures are the same regardless of which operating system you use, except for the note below:

Installing on Windows NT 4.0 and above, or Windows 2000:

When installing AVR on Windows NT 4.0 and above or Windows 2000, you should be signed on with Administrative Privileges to start the Acceler8DB NT Service.  If you are not signed on with Administrative Privileges, a Warning will display – stating that you need to have Administrative privileges to start the Acceler8DB NT Service.

Therefore, you may want to check with your Network Administrator prior to installing to ensure you have Administrative privileges.  Note that even if you do not, you can still install AVR, you just cannot start the Acceler8DB Service until you do.

To Install AVR from CD

1.       Insert the ASNA Product Suite CD into your CD drive.

·          If your CD drive has AutoPlay, a screen will automatically appear.  Select the options below to install AVR. 

·          If you do not have AutoPlay installed on your CD drive, start Microsoft Windows and from the Start Menu, select Run, and enter the path:  E:\INSTALL.EXE, where ‘E’ is the CD-Rom drive.  Then select the options below to install AVR.

2.       Click on Products.

3.       Click on ASNA Visual RPG.

4.       Click on Install Visual RPG.

Note that you can also View the Installation Notes help file or View the Release Notes HTML file from the CD.

5.       After the setup file is located, the Welcome screen will display.  Follow the instructions on the screen.  The main screens that will occur are:

·          License Agreement

·          Registration

·          Directory locations and selecting which files to install

·          Install Acceler8DB Engine

6.       The installation process for Acceler8DB Engine will automatically display.  Follow the instructions on the screen.  The main screens that will occur are:

·          License Agreement

·          Registration

·          Directory locations and selecting which files to install

When you install AVR Classic 4.0 on a system in which AVR has never been installed before, you are automatically given a “trial” version of AVR.  A trial version is good for approximately 30 days, so you do not need to enter a license key until the product is purchased and you have received a permanent license key from ASNA.  Refer to ASNA Registration Assistant help file for further information on licensing a product.

Starting AVR

After you have completed the installation procedure, you can start AVR at any time.

1.       Start ASNA Visual RPG by selecting StartPrograms - ASNA Product Suite - ASNA Visual RPG 4.0 - ASNA Visual RPG.

2.       The AVR IDE will display.
For help on using AVR, select Contents from the Help menu to display the AVR help file (AVR.hlp).

If you wish to create a Shortcut to AVR to place on your desktop, the file is Avr35.exe, which is located in the Program directory specified during Installation.

Starting Acceler8DB

After you have completed the installation procedure, you can start any of the products included with Acceler8DB at any time.

1.       Start an Acceler8DB product by selecting Start – Programs - ASNA Product Suite - Acceler8DB.

2.       Select the desired product to open.

3.       For help on using any of the products, select Contents from the Help menu to display the On-line help file.

Deinstalling AVR 

To Remove AVR

1.       Select Start – Settings - Control Panel.

2.       Select Add/Remove Programs.

3.       Select ASNA Visual RPG 4.0.

4.       Click Add/Remove….

5.       Click Yes to begin removing ASNA Visual RPG 4.0.  Click No to return to the previous screen.

Deinstalling Acceler8DB Engine

To Remove ASNA Acceler8DB Engine

1.       Select Start – Settings - Control Panel.

2.       Select Add/Remove Programs.

3.       Select Acceler8DB Engine 5.0.

Note that there may be several of the following that will need to be removed, as listed below.  You can only delete one of the following at a time.

·          Acceler8DB Engine

·          ASNA Deployment Installation

4.       Click the Add/Remove… icon.

5.       Click Yes to begin removing Acceler8DB.  Click No to return to the previous screen.

Removing ADB Sources Icon from Desktop

Unfortunately, there is currently not a convenient way to remove the ADB Sources icon from the Windows desktop.  However, you can remove by following the instructions below. 

To Remove ADB Sources Icon from the Desktop

1.       Go to an MS-DOS command prompt - (Start > Programs > Command Prompt).

2.       At the DOS prompt, enter:

cd "c:\program files\common files\asna shared"

3.       Press <enter> to confirm the current directory as above.

4.       Next, enter the following:  (note that the '-' is important!).

regole -adbShell.dll

5.       Press <enter>.  (There will be no response unless there is an error).

6.       Exit the DOS Command Prompt.  Now you are back to the desktop.

7.       Press F5 to refresh the Desktop.  ADB Sources should no longer display.
