HOWTO: AVR 4.x Applications accessing DataGate for SQL Server 7.x

The information in this article applies to:

    • ASNA Visual RPG, Release 4.0 and higher
    • DataGate for SQL Server for .NET, Release 7.1 and higher
    • MS SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005

SUMMARY:

These steps within this article demonstrate how to get an AVR 4.x application to work with DataGate for SQL Server for .NET 7.x. This article builds upon the techniques one would use to have an AVR 4.0 application work with DataGate for SQL Server 5.0.

STATUS:

Current.

MORE INFORMATION:

Below are the requirements needed to have an AVR 4.0 application access SQL via ASNA's DataGate for SQL Server.

DataGate for SQL Server 5.0 - Requirements:

The requirements needed for an AVR 4.0 application to access SQL Server with 5.0 are:

  • Support for DataGate for SQL Server on each client;
  • DataGate for SQL Server installed on the SQL Server.

The following items list the changes that are needed to have AVR 4.x applications use DSS 7.x.

DataGate for SQL Server 7.x - Requirements:

The requirements needed for an AVR 4.x application to access SQL Server with 7.x are:

  • The version for adbapi.dll and adbcom.dll need to be at 7.a x.yz (where a, x, y, z are client version numbers) on each client. Click here on how you can determine the version information;
  • DataGate for SQL Server 7.x installed on the SQL Server.

You can install these files by selecting a DataGate for SQL Server 7.x custom install.

NOTE: You can not have a 5.0 client (i.e.: adbcom.dll and adbapi.dll) access DSS 7.x Server (Engine); additionally, you can not have a 7.x client (i.e.: adbcom.dll and adbapi.dll) access a DSS 5.0 Server (Engine), i.e. the client and the server have to be at the same release level.
